Kate & Iain got married in December 2020 at St. Bartholomew’s church in Marsden, Huddersfield. The plans got changed a couple of times but they were thrilled when just a week or so before the revised date, the government confirmed that weddings could go ahead, phew! The fact we were in ‘Tier 3’ local lockdown restrictions didn’t bother the couple in the slightest, they were pleased they could get married after all.
Due to the lockdown, despite us living a few minutes walking distance from each other, we only met via video chat before the big day!
As their ceremony was scheduled in the afternoon in December, the couple opted to have a ‘first look’ at the beautiful Wessenden valley, nearby to their home in our village of Marsden, Huddersfield. This meant we could get some lovely natural light photographs and meant they didn’t have to rush off from their guests straight after the wedding ceremony.
Butterley Reservoir provided a stunning backdrop, although we were battling cold, winds, and A WHOLE LOAD OF MUD! Bare in mind, bride Kate was 30 weeks pregnant at the time, and this was before the ceremony….. what absolute troopers. I have never turned up at a wedding ceremony so covered in mud BUT the couple stayed clean 🙂
We even managed to capture some photographs of their dog Barney whilst avoiding muddy paw prints on the special dress!
After the ceremony, Kate revealed a very special gift to Iain, who has a severe form of colour blindness. She’s got him some amazing, custom made glasses that meant he could see colour for the first time. It was a really emotional moment and a total surprise to Iain! A lot of their guests were brushing away tears.
Not a couple to be phased by the tight restrictions, we popped back inside the church for cake cutting and a couple of speeches. Their first dance took place outside under the archway outside the church, played from a mobile phone. It meant they could still have the little special moments of their day and end 2020 on a high!
A big thanks to Kate & Iain for booking me to capture your wedding and a huge congratulations on your marriage. Here are a few of the highlights:
The gorgeous flowers came from local florist, Lily Blossom (who I highly recommend!)
