Cherish The Dress: Bolam Lake Northumberland

This blog entry brings something completely different! I have wanted to do a cherish/trash the dress shoot for a while, where a bride puts on her wedding dress after her wedding for a photoshoot.

What is the difference between a trash the dress and a cherish the dress shoot I hear you ask?

Well, both are photoshoots with the bride in her wedding dress after the big day, and may or may not involve their partner. Both usually take place in outdoor locations, either urban or in a natural setting…

During a cherish the dress shoot, the wedding dress may get slightly dirty, however the trash the dress has much more of an intent with this of getting it dirty/wrecked/trashed, so may involve more mud, or paint… in some countries they even create an illusion of setting the dress on fire!! It is to symbolise the fact that are now married for life, and wouldn’t need to wear the dress again.

Having a little bit of extra time this month, and wanting to try something new, I offered up a free session over on my Facebook page . I had so many lovely emails asking to be involved, that it was a very hard decision to choose. I decided to choose Danielle for the Cherish The Dress shoot as her style really suited the woodland location I had in mind. Many of these types of shoots are very fashion based, with lots of serious expressions and posing. Having a much more relaxed style with photography I wanted to create something more in my style.

Danielle got married in 2011 at High House Farm Brewery to the lovely Scott. Her wedding was featured on top UK wedding blog Love My Dress and also in national Wedding Ideas Magazine.

It was so wonderful to meet up with her again this month. It was a bright & sunny day, and Danielle was so happy to get back into her wedding dress, and her Whichgoose floral crown.

We had so many giggles during this shoot, and we were also chased by swans which was a rather scary moment… they seemed to seek us out in the woods to chase us!

Anyway here are the highlights of the day….

A Warkworth pre-wedding shoot (Heather & David) featuring Kinder Surprise!

Heather & David are planning their intimate Spring wedding at Hotel Du Vin Newcastle, with close family and friends. We met up on a very windy January day in Warkworth, Northumberland, for their pre-wedding shoot.

David had proposed to Heather using a toy ring in a Kinder Egg, to remind them of their first date when he came bearing Kinder Eggs, just to make a lasting and fun impression….how sweet is that? So on hearing this at our first meeting, I knew that Kinder Eggs had to feature in their pre-wedding shoot, and I look forward to seeing how they are incorporated into their wedding too!

Despite some initial nerves, they both got into the swing of things with having their photograph taken and by the end of it even David was cracking out some model poses…. hehe!

I had a blast with these two and can’t wait to see them as bride and groom in just a couple of months, eeek!

Kirkley Hall Wedding Fair: Katie Byram Photography

I was honoured to be invited along to showcase my work at the Kirkley Hall Wedding Showcase, where suppliers are handpicked to attend and display their work, as they are recommended by the venue.

I took along my camera to get some images of the day and was so happy to finally take a few photos of those fab light up letters from Coco Luminaire!

Here is my stand, which I proudly displayed some of my new albums and work on.

A twinkly-light engagement shoot in Newcastle (Sarah & Bryan)

Sarah & Bryan got engaged in November and both being a massive fan of Newcastle, jumped at the chance to have their engagement photographs taken around the city.

Sarah particularly loves Christmas, so wanted to include the twinkly Christmas lights in the photographs.

With this in mind, we decided to meet shortly before sunset, and head down to the quayside, to get some photographs at dusk, and after some very nice warming drinks (peanut butter hot chocolate……err yes please!) at the fab Olive & Bean cafe, we headed back out to take some more around Monument metro station and the Christmas markets once it was properly dark. Always one to try new things with my photography and get creative, although i’ve taken a few portraits in the dark, this was my first night time engagement shoot!

How cool is the above huge plant pot twinkly thing outside the Pitcher & Piano ?? I would quite like one in my house!

It was very busy in town with lots of people doing their Christmas shopping, and huge queue to catch a glimpse of the famous Fenwick’s window, but Sarah & Bryan shook off any initial nerves of being photographed with lots of giggles 🙂

It was such a lovely evening spent with these two, never a dull moment!

A huge congratulations to Sarah & Bryan on their engagement and I do hope they have lots of fun planning their wedding together!

Master CakeSmith Photoshoot (Ellingham)

A few months ago on a very hot summer day I photographed some cakes for The Master CakeSmith. Dawn, who owns the business makes amazing vintage-inspired wedding cakes with lots of floral details.

Dawn was thrilled with the photographs and started planning her next photoshoot after that! This shoot took place this week at her home in the gorgeous little village of Ellingham, right near Ellingham Hall.

Dawn is wonderful to work with, as she has so many creative ideas. She had some props from The Finishing Touch Company and some fresh flowers from Bels Flowers to decorate some little set ups for her cake.

Whilst I was there I spotted their garden shed which had some lovely peeling paint on it, and mentioned how if we did another shoot there we’d have to use that as a backdrop. Dawn’s husband was over the moon as he now has an excuse not to have the job of re-painting the shed until after our next shoot, hehe!!
